Le Nozze di Figaro ( November 21. 8.30 PM)

Le Nozze di Figaro, Anonymus Watercolour, 19 th Century

The Marriage of Figaro, W. A. MOZART

(Opera: sung in Italian with Spanish subtitles)

The start of a new humanism

Le nozze di Figaro is a four act “opera buffa” (comic opera), based on “The Marriage of Figaro” from French writer Beaumarchais. The opera was composed by W. A. Mozart with the libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It was performed for the first time in Vienna, on May 1, 1786 with Mozart himself directing the first two performances. Considered the world’s first musical comedy, its plot takes place after the events of “The Barber of Seville” and includes several characters from that piece such as: Almaviva, Figaro and Rosina.

Dr. José María "Pepe" Kokubu, a specialist on Mozart and the author of "Mozart and Gardel. The music of the words", will give an informative introduction to this work at the European Club prior to the performance.

Through musical examples, Mr. Kokubu will show how Mozart managed to overcome the dualism that characterized musical theater at that time, 1786 (two years before the French Revolution and ten years prior to the American Revolution and the creation of the
Virreynato del Rio de la Plata). Through this ascension Mozart managed to achieve a perfect union between the sacred and the profane, the tragic and the comic, the noble and the popular.

At the conclusion of the talk, there will be a cantabile surprise !
