Teatro Colón Update

I want to share with you this information about Teatro Colón, summarise by Samuel
W. Warde.

The Teatro Colón, Argentina’s top opera house, has a new director. Musician, producer, cultural personality and former director of the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Pedro Pablo García Caffi, 64, was appointed to this position by Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri. The position had been vacant since January, after the resignation of Horacio Sanguinetti.

The Teatro Colón’s doors were closed in 2006 to facilitate the completion of a full restoration begun in 2001. The theater was closed to refurbish its seating, acoustic tiles, wooden stage and balconies, and to modernize its aging water, electrical and air conditioning systems.

Prior to his resignation, former theater director Horacio Sanguinetti insisted that the theater would be ready for the 2010 season, which already includes commitments by Milan's Teatro Alla Scala symphony, led by Argentine-born conductor Daniel Barenboim.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
