The Rake’s Progress ( 1951) is a modern opera , one of Igor Stravinsky’s greatest works, and his only full-length opera. The libretto was written by W.H. Auden and Chester Kallman, in the most beautiful English Language.

The Russian composer, fascinated for Cinema and TV, found his inspiration at a series of eight engravings of the same name, works of English artist and satirist William Hogart (18 th Ct). The engravings told the story of the rise and fall of Tom Rakewell, son of a rich merchant, who through lures of London Nightlife is led to his incarceration at an lunatic asylum.

At Stravinsky’s work the poet remained an essential contributor, and opera gives the poet the most imaginative freedom.

“La traviata” is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on the novel “La dame aux Camélias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, published in 1848. The title "La Traviata" means literally “The Woman Who Strayed”.

Verdi's eternally popular opera is about a conflicted courtesan ( Violeta Valery, prima dona soprano), her devoted lover ( Alfredo, primo tenore) and the hard-edged world of Violetta, where normal emotions do not exist. The excesses and excitements, of living for the moment is why her relationship with Alfredo is full of turbulence.
Piave and Verdi wanted to follow Dumas in giving the opera a contemporary setting, but the authorities at the Theatres insisted that it be set in the past. It was not until the 1880s that the composer's and librettist's original wishes were carried out and "realistic" productions were staged.

LA TRAVIATA is a true work of art, a mysteriously beautiful. If one considers the love stories of all times, beside the undeniable classics this one was provided with something special and timeless: glorious music.

Carmen on March 6th at Teatro Avenida

CARMEN, by Georges Bizet is a modern opera, which takes place in Seville (Spain) at the beginning of the 19 th Century. The story has shoking aspects based on French writer Mérimée' s novella and Russian Poet Pushkin’s Poems.

This opera was extremely innovative in its drama: alternating comic or sentimental scenes found traditionally in opera-comique with stark realism, treating emotions with absolute seriousness.
Carmen, a promiscuos gipsy, is fatalistic and hedonistic and she would set, as she explains in the Habanera, her own rules to try men. To perform Carmen, Acting plays a key-role.

In a interview Alicia Cecotti has said : “ To perform Carmen, it is important to have an acting. The most important for this role-play is not the voice. It is important to understand the essence of this key role. My Carmen is a happy one, merry of her life…. She dances , she jokes about the others. She has an strong temperament when fighting with others “
